The Hero group today announced setting up of a new company — Easy Bill Pvt Ltd — to foray into mass bill collection system. The new company will develop and manage this business nationwide. The company plans to set-up about 15,000 retailers spread across 35 cities within the next three years. The investment required for setting up the basic infrastructure with retailers would be to the tune of Rs 75 crore. The service, which would be operational in March, would be rolled out in phases beginning with New Delhi, Punjab, Mumbai, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana followed by other parts of the country. Under the new venture, a point of sale network would be created through a technology backbone to be used by consumers to pay their utility bills, buy telecommunication products and avail of other similar services, Hero Group chairman Brij Mohan Lall Munjal told newspersons here. The Hero Group enjoys competence in managing nation-wide distribution network which would be leveraged for the new venture, Munjal said. Easy bill would step in to offer a one-stop solution for all bill collection needs. The same work set up could be used to market products in areas like telecom, insurance and credit cards among others, Easy Bill chief executive officer (CEO) Rahul Munjal said. He added that according to a research conducted by the Hero group, an average consumer spends Rs 12.4 to pay each bill, has to travel 10.8 km, spends 64 minutes and has about 3.36 bills per month. “Since we plan to set-up one retailer within one kilometre radius distance, will also take money in cash and will charge a minimal fee, the service would be lucrative for a lot of customers,” Rahul Munjal said
